About the event

RALEIGH ROOST RUMBLE

A turkey hunting challenge brought to you by Raleigh Area Bowhunters

Welcome to the Raleigh Roost Rumble! This FREE and exciting challenge is open to all members of the Raleigh Area Bowhunters club and will run throughout the entire North Carolina turkey hunting season. Youth Season April 6-12, 2024; Spring Turkey Season April 13 – May 11, 2024.

Challenge Guidelines:

Eligibility: All Raleigh Area Bowhunters members are eligible to participate in the challenge. To be eligible, hunters must abide by all state hunting regulations and obtain the necessary licenses and permits for turkey hunting in their respective locations.

Scoring Criteria: Turkeys harvested must be Eastern Wild Turkeys and must be harvested with a bow. To score a turkey, follow these guidelines:

1). Weigh your turkey on a reliable scale in pounds to the nearest ounce.

2). Measure the beard from the skin to the tip of the longest whisker to the nearest 16th of an inch. Multiply this measurement by two to obtain the beard score.

3).  Measure the spurs from the base to the tip on both legs. Add these measurements together and multiply the total by ten to obtain the spur score.

4).  Add the weight, beard score, and spur score together for the final score.

Reporting: Participants must accurately report all harvested turkeys to the challenge coordinator or designated club official. Reports must include the date of harvest, location, weight, beard measurement, and spur measurements for each turkey harvested. Additionally, participants must provide photo evidence of themselves with the bird, the weight, the beard length with a tape measure, and the spurs with a tape measure.

Competition Period: The competition will run for the duration of the North Carolina turkey hunting season. Participants may submit entries throughout the season as they harvest eligible turkeys.

Divisions: There will be two divisions:

Junior/Youth Division (<18 years old)

Adult Division (18 and older)

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the top hunters in each division based on the highest combined score of their harvested turkeys. Prizes may include trophies, merchandise, or other awards as determined by the club.

Ethical Hunting: Participants must adhere to ethical hunting practices, including fair chase principles, humane harvesting techniques, and compliance with all hunting regulations.

Safety: Safety is paramount. Participants must prioritize safety at all times and adhere to all firearm safety rules and regulations.

Join the Challenge:

To join the Raleigh Roost Rumble, RSVP in the event section of the RAB website and then harvest an eligible Eastern Wild Turkey with a bow during the North Carolina turkey hunting season and submit your entry following the scoring guidelines outlined above.

Let's make this season a memorable one for all participants!

Happy hunting.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
